What is Augmented Reality ?
Augmented Reality is going to become something of the norm in the near future; it will be implemented into everyday technology and beyond . Basically the phrase itself means a reality that has been altered, or “augmented.” The augmentation can be achieved through applying software into smartphones and computers and the software will literally change the way one sees the world through these devices. The software will be able to detect and display information, text, and images that are layered directly onto our own reality, giving us a new sense of the world. Augmented reality is a new evolution in the technology world which adopts new ways of adding information and methods of discovery to our reality. Augmented reality can benefit areas like medicine, engineering, personal computing, games, leisure and art.
There is no limit to the possibilities available through the capability of changing the landscape and what information or images to show on top of it. This opens up a whole new world for artists, as it allows them to bring an entirely new dimension to their piece of art by which enables a viewer to dive into their work via augmented reality. This is something to keep in mind as this trend is about to explode on the international art scene.
One of our artists, Erin Ko creates artwork that is specifically catered towards the augmented reality experience.
